Students will examine childhood as a site of cultural formation, identity construction, and resilience amidst systemic inequalities. The curriculum covers themes such as family dynamics, education, socialization, and representations of Black childhood in literature, media, and visual culture. Through interdisciplinary readings, case studies, and discussions, participants will critically analyze how race, class, gender, and historical contexts shape childhood experiences. The course aims to deepen understanding of the complexities of Black childhood and its implications for identity development and community resilience.
