Students will examine how Black writers, artists, and intellectuals have engaged with classical texts to explore themes of identity, power, and resistance. The curriculum covers literary works, visual arts, and performance traditions that reinterpret classical myths, histories, and philosophies from Black perspectives. Through comparative analysis, discussions, and creative projects, participants will critically assess the politics of representation and cultural memory. The course aims to highlight the transformative potential of classical studies in challenging Eurocentric narratives and affirming diverse cultural heritages.
